Thanks for attending!

Admitted Students’ Day was a great success! We had over 500 visitors to campus who were able to sample classes and participate in Whitman activities. Kudos to Admission Officer Robert Street for coordinating such a successful event.

Decisions!

You will be able to check your admission decision tonight at midnight!  Letters will be in the mail this afternoon.  Reading your applications has been a joy – you all are some pretty remarkable people.

Songs to Wait By

We’re finishing the decisions and getting ready to stuff all of those envelopes so that you all hear your news by April 1.  Here are some songs to keep you going:

We’re hard at work

We’re hard at work reviewing applications and creating financial aid packages. Hold on, we know it can be tough to wait. We’ll mail decisions with financial aid packages no later than April 1st!

More songs we’re reading by

OK, we’re really in the thick of reading your lovely applications. We do get short breaks to revel in our Men’s Basketball victory over top-seeded Whitworth and attend the many lectures happening on campus, but after those are done, we return to our files and our reading music:

Enjoy!

Thanks for applying!

Well, THE DEADLINE, that one you’ve been fretting all school year, finally passed on Saturday. We’re excited to have so many qualified students apply – it makes our jobs a bit harder, but more exciting at the same time.

If you’ve submitted your application and haven’t yet received a letter from us stating your file is complete, don’t panic. Give us a week or two to process your file and send you the letter. If you haven’t heard from us in about two weeks, give us a call or send an email and we’ll figure things out together.

The hard part is over – you’ve applied! Now it is time to sit down and wait, which can seem difficult, I know. You’ve done the leg work…enjoy the rest of your senior year!

Aaaannnndddd we’re back!

Happy New Year!  It is great to be back in the office after our winter break.  The students are still gone for another two weeks, so it is a touch lonely here on campus without them.  As I write this, it is 20 degrees and there is still some snow on the ground – it is quite pretty.  I hope you all have been able to enjoy your winter breaks, despite the looming deadlines!

Speaking of deadlines, just a quick reminder that the Regular Decision application deadline is fast approaching: January 15, 2011!  Turn your pieces in early so you can devote some time to hounding your teachers and counselors if necessary.

If you have questions about the application, please get in touch: (877) 462-9448 or admission@whitman.edu

We look forward to reading your applications!

Switching Gears

Well, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  The students had the whole Thanksgiving week off, and are just getting back to class today.  In the Admission Office, we are switching gears from recruitment to reading, just as the students are starting to prepare for their final exams, papers, and projects.  For us, it means reading Early Decision files and reconnecting with colleagues in the office.  For the students, it means spending countless hours in the Penrose Library – good thing it is open 24/7!

I’ve already read some really compelling and interesting Early Decision applications, and it is really making me excited to find out what lies in store for Early Decision II and Regular Decision.  Things around the Admission Office are quieting down a bit, in terms of visits as well – this is a good thing, because winter seems to have come a month early!

We’re going to hunker down and read.  The students are going to get down to business.  And you, the prospective students, should be writing those essays, and filling in your Common App.  January 15 will come sooner than you think, and wouldn’t it be nice to have everything done before your winter break?

Happy Thanksgiving from the Whitman Admission and Financial Aid Services Team!

Classes are back in session!

And when classes are in session, students spend a lot of time in the Allen Reading Room.  While most study, some dance:
